Good afternoon, Mae Stevens' parents, guardians, and families!
We are very excited to have your student on campus with us this year! We would like to offer a few tips to help us make dismissal a smoother process!
1. Be patient! As with any new process, it will take a few weeks to smooth out. By September, dismissal will be over by 3:20 most days. Right now, we are learning routines, getting car tags distributed, and waiting for bus transportation to begin. It DOES get better!
2. For car pick up:
a. If you still need a car tag, and everyone does need to have a car tag hanging in their front window, please come into our office between 7AM-3:45 PM to get one made, or have the teacher send one home. The sooner this is done, the smoother the whole process goes.
b. If you have a car tag, please have it displayed in your front window and when you see our staff member walking by your car, stay paused long enough so that she can see it.
c. We CANNOT buckle seatbelts. If your student cannot buckle their own, we do need you to get out and buckle them in.
d. When your child is brought to you, especially if they are on one of our “donut” ropes, please encourage them not to let go and run to you. We are teaching them to not let go until they are right next to you or when an adult says then can. We have actively moving cars in our parking lot, and we do not want any accidents to happen.
e. Please do not get out of the pickup line and park to walk up to the school unless you tell a staff member that you had been in the line. We write down your student’s name and sometimes have them to be brought out to the car line not knowing that you are waiting in the walk-up line.
f. Wait in your car until you see your student walking toward you, then you can get out to get them. If you get out too early and the teacher is not walking them out to you yet, it holds up the line.
g. Please do not use the pickup line to ask the teacher lots of questions as it also holds up the line. Schedule a time to talk to them, send them an email, or park and come in.
h. Please be courteous. We are all waiting in line for a while, and we all have places to be. Our line sometimes runs down the street to MLK, around the corner and down past the church. Circle around to get in the line if needed.
3. Remember that you cannot change how your child gets home after 2:30 unless it is an emergency. If you come in after 2:30 wanting to pick up, you will be sent outside to wait, and we cannot guarantee that the student will not already be on the bus if they are a bus rider.
4. We also encourage you to leave your student in school until 3:05. Learning is happening all day long and pulling them out early every day builds up until they are missing days of instruction.
Thank you!
Heather Peacock, Assistant Principal and Instructional Coach
