Our leadership team has continued to evaluate weather and road conditions across our community, as well as the forecast, and we’ve remained in constant communication with all appropriate agencies. With today’s warm-up, conditions have improved enough that Copperas Cove ISD will reopen and return to class on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at its normal start time.

CCISD buses will run at their normal time, and breakfast will be served at its normal time at every campus. Parents are encouraged to ensure their student is dressed warmly for the day.

Once students and staff return tomorrow, the district will begin a review of whether any changes to the academic calendar are required alongside district staff and the Board of Trustees. If so, those will communicated with families as soon as possible.

Due to continued hazardous conditions on roadways, an an abundance of precipitation on the roadways projected to refreeze across Copperas Cove, Copperas Cove ISD schools and offices will remain closed out of an abundance of caution on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Activities scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for a later date.

CCISD leadership has continued to evaluate road conditions across our community, as well as the forecast which includes more freezing temperatures, and while major roadways have improved, too many neighborhood, rural and hill-side streets remain covered in ice. Many school parking lots and entryways remain covered in ice, as well. We've included several photos in this post taken earlier this afternoon.

Given the state of the roads and school parking lots, it is not safe to ask our bus drivers to report in the early morning hours to run routes in these conditions, nor to ask the several-hundred student and parent drivers to commute to school in the morning.

Copperas Cove ISD expects to be able to reopen on Thursday, January 28, 2026, but will continue to evaluate and communicate with the appropriate agencies to ensure it is safe to do so. Once CCISD is able to safely return to school, we will work alongside district staff and the Board of Trustees to evaluate if a change needs to be made to the academic calendar. If so, those will be communicated with families as soon as possible.

“I know this extended closure may create challenges for families,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding as we put the safety of everybody in our school community first. We look forward to a safe return to school as soon as possible.”

Students in Mrs. Straley’s class engaged in building and extending AABB patterns using a diverse array of hands-on manipulatives. They then participated in a friendly competition to determine who could create the longest pattern. Some students even attempted to match the length of their patterns to their height. This approach effectively demonstrates real-world mathematics in an enjoyable manner.

Mae Stevens ELA extends heartfelt gratitude to our wonderful partners at HEB in Copperas Cove for their generous donation of milk and cookies for our Family Holiday Literacy Night held in December. Mrs. Zimmer-Clark created a poster, which our young Bulldawgs decorated with their thumbprints as a token of appreciation for your contributions. Thank you for your support!
