COPPERAS COVE – Students and staff, alike, will see an investment made in the technology infrastructure within the district.

Monday, during its regular meeting, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees approved the purchase of more than 1,400 new computers to serve students and staff in the district. Of those, 113 are for staff and 1,300 are new student devices to replace outdated computers.

The purchase of these devices was approved alongside the purchase of Lightspeed Software, which allows teachers to control technology use in their classrooms. The board also approved two Dell servers and the necessary accessories to go with them and improve the district’s functionality.

“Technology is vital in modern education and our current technology infrastructure doesn’t meet the current demands for students,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “While these purchases won’t fix the problem in one attempt, it is a first step in the process to get our technology setup where every parent, student and employee expects it to be. This will improve performance and streamline how people use our systems, and we are confident that every Bulldawg will see that soon.”

In technology, the trustees also approved the purchase of new switches and access points to improve network performance.

The trustees also approved the purchase of six new Chevy Trax SUV’s to add to the district’s fleet. These will allow for a more financially-responsible way for district staff to travel to meetings and conferences than what is currently available.

“When we reviewed the budget ahead of this school year, we noticed that the easiest place to cut expenses without negative affect was how our staff travels to meetings or conferences,” Hawkins said. “By adding smaller vehicles to our fleet of Suburbans, we can cut the cost the district pays in these trips without missing out on the knowledge our staff gains at these events which directly benefits our students.”

The trustees also approved the purchase of three new maintenance trucks to update an aged fleet, a cargo van and two new passenger buses.

The Board of Trustees is next scheduled to hold its regular October workshop at 6 p.m. Oct. 20th, with its regular meeting scheduled for the same time on Oct. 27th. Both meetings will be held in the Board Room at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street.

Agendas for each meeting are posted outside the District Service & Training Center three business days prior to the meeting. Once posted, they can be viewed online at www.CCISD.com/SchoolBoard.
